Teambuilding 2024

Time for adventure and a good time!

Our first day of team building started on the magnificent Velebit, where we set off to conquer the mountain in jeeps. Every turn revealed new spectacular views that no photo can truly capture! At the top of the mountain, we enjoyed a fantastic lunch, sharing stories with each other that we will remember for a long time. Luck was on our side as we came across wild horses galloping freely in front of us – a sight to remember! We also visited the birthplace of our very own Luka Modrić and had the chance to take photos in front of his childhood home.

After a full day of enjoying nature and relaxing in the beautiful wellness oasis of Falkensteiner Hotel Iadera, we held a workshop where we reflected on our beginnings and how much we have progressed up to today. We also presented new projects, setting ambitious goals for the future.

The second day brought even more excitement! Rafting on the Zrmanja River was a true adrenaline rush and a very cold adventure – we descended numerous waterfalls, navigated through fast currents, and eagerly awaited the calmer sections to relax a bit and enjoy the stunning views of our beautiful country.

And to mark the end of our three-day adventure, we treated ourselves to lunch at Maškovića Han near Biograd – a historical masterpiece that today symbolizes tradition and culture. We enjoyed dishes made from fresh ingredients. The spacious courtyard was the perfect place to relax.

Finally, a big thank you to our dear Marija, who runs Wanderlust Events, for the impeccable organization and great collaboration! Her dedication and professionalism make every moment special, and we can’t wait for our next collaboration.

To new adventures for the KnowIT team…

Team Building 2023

Unforgettable vacation in Istria: Poreč adventure

We recently returned from our trip where we spent a few cool days filled with adventure, laughter and unforgettable moments.

Brijuni archipelago

We visited the magical Brijuni and walked through history in the museum dedicated to Josip Broz – Tito. We also had a safari drive, which made this adventure even more special because we had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature surrounded by numerous animals that have been residents of Brijuna for many years. Considering that the weather served us well, we did not forget to enjoy the sun and swimming in our wonderful Adriatic Sea.

Adrenaline activities

On the second day, we continued our fun from the morning in the adrenaline park, where we tested our limits. We had a karting competition, we drove off-road on quads, and after that we visited the forest where we played paintball with lots of laughter and excitement. Tired from the whole day’s activities, in the evening we were hosted by our dear colleague from Istria, we met his family, tried traditional Istrian food and enjoyed socializing until late at night.

Rovinj

Our return home was even more special because we drove to beautiful Rovinj, a city that captivates with its charming atmosphere and picturesque streets. He definitely blew us away!

This trip was not only a break from business activities, but also an opportunity to build and strengthen team relationships, which are extremely important to us, as well as creating new unforgettable memories!

Until the next Team Buidling …..

Teambuilding 2022

Mid-last week, we decided to replace our routine with a three-day trip to Plitvice Lakes, which we spent with colleagues and business partners, enjoying numerous adrenaline activities that we selected.
On our first day, we spent time at an adventure park where we had fun with paintball, go-karting, climbing, and many other sports activities that further strengthened our team spirit. In the evening, we gathered for a presentation where we defined our new business goals and projects, and later continued to enjoy ourselves with good music and tasting Lika specialties that impressed us.

The next morning, we set off with a guide to Željava Airbase and toured the tunnels, which were built in the shape of an airplane and once served as accommodation for soldiers. We also drove along the runway. After a detailed tour of the airbase, we went to a viewpoint that offered us an unforgettable view of the Great Waterfall of Plitvice Lakes, and nearby, in the heart of Plitvice Lakes National Park, is Vila Izvor, better known as Tito’s Villa, which he had built.

Finally, we decided to go zip-lining and had the chance to fly over some of the most beautiful parts of Croatia.

Our team created the TASK mobile application

In an intelligent, innovative and simple way the mobile application “TASK” enabled our users to monitor and plan all processes related to the maintenance and servicing of inventory, locations, work supplies and other assets within the business environment.

The application offers a number of solutions with which the supplier’s service technicians can record their arrival and departure and based on this, we record the time required to perform the work. With the help of a QR code that can be scanned within the application the arrival at the location is recorded and when the work is finished, when the repairs are done the application records the new changes made by the repairmen and after rescanning the QR code the completion of the repairs and the departure is indicated. In the event that the repair cannot be carried out in the planned period the repairmen can reschedule their arrival with the established date and time, based on which they return to the location and repair the reported problem.

After the service is done the supplier’s service technicians enter the details of their arrival into the application, which includes:

  • work description

  • adding images (possibility of adding images through the gallery or directly from the application)

  • list of repairmen (number of repairmen in the field)

  • expenses

If there are problems with the Internet within the location, our application synchronizes in its database all the data recorded by the supplier’s service personnel immediately when the device is connected to the Internet, therefore the application does not have to be connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.

The mobile application goes with our product TASK, and the mobile version is exclusively for service technicians and the execution of work orders.

The pilot phase of the application has passed successfully, it was developed using Flutter technology, it is available on Play Store and App Store and is intended for Android and iOS devices.

Our team visited HrOUG2022

Also this year, the HrOUG conference was held in Tuhelje, which is dedicated to developer topics with the aim of presenting and introducing new technologies.

The first day of the conference began with a welcome speech by Davor Ranković, who is also the president of HrOUG, followed by a lecture by Prof. Dr. Srića Velimira, who is a university professor emeritus at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, a consultant to Croatian and international companies in the field of management, and also has experience in working with information technologies and coaching. In his lectures, he explains how important it is to motivate yourself and others in order to develop a more positive and successful work culture, which is very important for achieving business goals set by the organization.

Another goal of the conference was to transfer and exchange knowledge and experience in the use of ORACLE technology and the improvement of IT activities with the help of other domestic and foreign lecturers whose goal is also to encourage users to achieve their business plans and future tasks.

After listening to the lectures, the team used their free time enjoying the indoor and outdoor swimming pools and the sauna, and spent the morning jogging in nature and going to the gym. Dinners and concerts were organized in the evening, and you could relax while playing the new board games that were presented.

After the three-day conference, our team decided to take a trip to Vinagora, which is an ideal place for socializing in nature, grilling and enjoying the first rays of the sun!

You can see how it was for us in the photos … and until then we are waiting and looking forward to the next conference!

When a new office encourages a working atmosphere, but also a place for fun and relaxation

We spent the last four years at ZICER (Zagreb Innovation Center), where we spent time from the very beginning, starting with one, then with two employees. Over the years, the scope of business has increased and with that, the need for reunforcment, so it was time to choose a larger office that will be adequate for the current team of sixteen employees.

The location we have chosen for the new office is Business Park located in the heart of the business zone on Radnička cesta. The office is located on the first floor, and around us are many companies engaged in various activities, while in the Business Park there are cafes and restaurants whose proximity is especially suitable.

The office is conceived as an open space dominated by tables and drawers made of light oak wood, while we chose details such as shelves, table frames and lighting in slightly darker shades. The furniture in the office consists of elements ordered from the well-known furniture manufacturer Velinac, which operates in the domestic and foreign markets, including ergonomic chairs whose quality is of great importance since the company’s strength is developers who work exclusively for computers and spend most of their time sitting.

Inside the office there is also a Relax room which is a place for fun and relaxation, playing PlayStation or chess, but also a place to relax at the bar table. The furniture in the relax room is a combination of Lesnina and Ikea, while one piece of furniture is made to measure. We also have a kitchen that serves as a space for making coffee or tea. In addition to the open space and relax room, there is another smaller office, a meeting room with a large conference table next to the conference chairs and the director’s office.

On the same floor we have another room with a wardrobe, table and chairs and staff is available for meetings, conversations or ultimately a break.

What a backend developer at KnowIT does?

1.  Can you briefly describe what you do as a backend developer?

As a backend developer, I work on developing new functionalities that are defined during monthly sprints in collaboration with clients (SCRUM methodology). I am also focused on day-to-day support, which is resolving tasks reported to JIRA by business users, including:

  • enhancing optimization of existing packages, procedures and functions in the database

  • work on integration between individual systems

  • development of the frontend part of the system

  • testing functionalities in cooperation with business users and holding workshops with them in order to get them acquainted with the developed functionalities

2.  What your start of employment in KnowIT looked like?

I came to KnowIT after graduating from college. Before KnowIT, I worked in a large IT corporation and my role was business analyst. After 10 months, I have decided that I would still prefer to do programming, that is, that I would prefer to be in technical software development. I spent most of my initial period at KnowIT learning technologies that are becoming my core business in the coming period, as well as getting to know the business and software logic of the system I am working on. I also attended daily workshops with a mentor who was there for each of my questions.

3.  What are your likes and dislikes in the work you do?

What I like the most about my own job is that I meet new demands and needs every day, which actually creates a job that is not monotonous and repetitive but requires a lot of logical thinking, which is a great benefit for me personally. Also, the possibility of flexibility in business is a big plus, it means that I can work in a suitable place without being tied to the location of the business. When it comes to “flaws”, they are generally related to IT itself because it requires computer work 8 hours a day. It is for this reason that I try to be physically active almost every day, mostly in the form of a gym. What I would like to mention under this part is the fact that sometimes it can be stressful when the deadline is close, but in the end, it is a charm of work because a person learns to function well in stressful situations and after all, if it was always a “happy day “ scenario, it wouldn’t be that interesting.

4.  Can you describe what the work atmosphere is like?

The working atmosphere is really great. We all try to help each other and I can turn to my colleagues for help at any time if I encounter any difficulty. Teamwork is something we are involved in on a daily basis  and when you have great colleagues it can only be a benefit. When we are in the office, we always go out for lunch together, we often hang out for a drink after work which greatly contributes to a quality work atmosphere.

5.  If you were looking for a job now, would you get a job at KnowIT?

Definitely, yes. Mostly because a person has the opportunity to work on complex projects where they can really learn a lot. Also, if you have the will and desire to change the field and technology, you will always get the opportunity to do so.

6.  What are the things you have learned while working at KnowIT?

Here I would highlight the technologies I work with on a daily basis. First of all, these are databases. In addition, I work in Java, where I didn’t have any previous experience before. In addition to the technical side, I also completed certain “soft skills” such as communication with clients, critical thinking, holding various workshops and other similar things.

How our scholarship helped the student of informatics design?

1.  Hello, thank you very much for agreeing to participate in this interview. For starters, can you briefly introduce yourself to me? Where are you from, how old are you and what are you studying?

Hello, I am 21 years old, I come from Duga Resa and I am studying in the second year of the Technical Polytechnic in Zagreb. When enrolling in college, I have chosen the field of information design. So far I have learned to do HTML, SVG and I am currently learning EX Design and graphic techniques – Photoshop, Design Illustration and Python.

2.  Why did you choose this particular study?

From a young age I was fascinated by computers and by then I already knew I wanted to work in IT. I showed great interest in programming and in the beginning I actually wanted to be a programmer, but as the years went by, no matter how much I love programming, I realized that the visual side is also good for me. I have been working in Photoshop since I was 13 and I have been editing videos. When I realized that I had the opportunity to enroll in IT design, I didn’t think too much.

3.  Where do you see yourself in the future? What do you want to do?

When it comes to the future, I hope to have the opportunity to work in this profession, I would very much like that. I would love to do websites and apps. I certainly hope that soon, while I am still a student, I will have the opportunity to do a student job that I have not been able to find so far due to my difficulties.

4.  Where do you find motivation for learning and working?

In high school, my motivation was to come to my desired college, that is, to study informatics, while today the fact is that I love what I learn and do. Even though the tasks are simple, I like to do something that I am proud of later, rather than just doing it.

5.  How much does the success you achieve motivate you to achieve your next goals?

Enough, when my book was published, it motivated me to keep writing, when I enrolled in computer design it encouraged me to go back to an area I thought would be just a hobby and every time something like that happens I have more confidence and I always try to surpass what has already been achieved.

6.  How did the KnowIT d.o.o. scholarship helped you?

The scholarship really helped me a lot and I am grateful for that. I had to pay for a dorm room, so most of the money went to it, and the other part I had left helped me to be more financially free – I got my software licenses and I’m currently using a Maxon package that I got myself thanks to the scholarship. I also helped my parents so they could settle my cell phone bills.

7.  Do you have anything to say to young people, students like you? What is the secret of your success?

I would tell young people like me to never take no for an answer. By that I mean that if someone tells them that they will not succeed in something, they should not give up because of those words and firmly believe in themselves and their desires. The secret of my success is that a lot of people believed in me and still believe.

What did we do on our three-day teambuilding?

Less than a year has passed since our last team meeting and we finally decided to go on a three-day trip to rest with the remaining sunny days in the small town of Bajčići, located on the island of Krk. For a start, we settled on the “House Jerini” estate, which is an ideal destination for recharging our batteries.

During the morning we toured the island of Krk and walked to the city center. In the afternoon we relaxed in different ways – some enjoyed cycling and walking by the sea, some tried new flavors of drinks at the wine bar, while some enjoyed the gym, swimming in the pool and spending time in the sauna.

The day after, we focused on a workshop that was organized through individual and team work, and the goal was to learn and devise adequate solutions to difficulties that may arise at some point in business. Also, the workshop provides assistance in devising new ideas that are important for further business.

We always express our team spirit, which is very important to us because it is the bearer of our success when it comes to achieving goals together.
